UNIVERSITY OF MARYLAND

An Organization Leveling the Playing Field

It all started with our president Andy Wang who created this organization to teach students how to break into private equity & venture capital. Establishing his vision, Andy recruited a team to help him bring PE & VC industry knowledge to the University of Maryland.

Founded in 2021 and based in College Park, the UMD Private Equity & Venture Capital Group is a passionate community comprised of undergraduate students seeking to explore the field of private equity. You’re welcome to browse our site to learn more, and if what we’re doing resonates with you, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

FAQ

WHAT IS PRIVATE EQUITY?

Private equity typically refers to investment funds, generally organized as limited partnerships, that buy and restructure companies that are not publicly traded.

HOW OFTEN DOES THE PRIVATE EQUITY GROUP AT UMD MEET?

The Private Equity Group hosts weekly meetings on Wednesday evening at 6 PM. In the case of a speaking event, that time may change but will take place on same night.

HOW CAN I STAY UPDATED WITH ANNOUNCEMENTS?

There are three ways to stay informed of upcoming events, and we recommend you use all three. First, follow the Instagram account for quick updates on upcoming events. Second, join the GroupMe to hear about plans for the semester. Lastly, join the LinkedIn group to network with other members within the organization.

DO I HAVE TO BE A MEMBER TO PARTICIPATE?

Yes and no! You don't have to be a "member" to attend a general body meeting or a speaking event. However, to compete in case competitions, attend networking events, and participate in internship interviews, we give preference to those who consistently attend. We do not collect membership fees/dues.
